RESORUCE ~ Does Prayer make Any Difference?

=

Note>>> Once again, Philip Yancey tackles a question asked by every serious Christian; a question every prayer leader must answer: Does praying make any difference?

While the book has a start-to-finish order, it has the ability to serve as a resource book for pastors and prayer ministry leaders.:
  • Drop in on chapter six to think through "Why Pray?" (just one of the many basic and even perplexing issues about prayer)
  • ...Or read "Prayer for a Prodigal" (one of the many sidebar testimonies sprinkled throughout the book useful as corporate prayer starters)
  • ...Or study "Checklist for Healing" (one of the many chapter segments that can serve as the basis for a teaching)
The book is divided into three segments which focus on the ultimate purpose of praying, the mysteries of prayer, and "the language of God."

Since prayer is an act of wrestling, we ought to do some wrestling when it comes to having a deeper undersatnding of the what and why of praying.

Philip Yancey Wrestles with the Mystery of Prayer

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 5, 2006 – In his most powerful book since What’s So Amazing About Grace? and The Jesus I Never Knew, Philip Yancey probes the very heartbeat – the most fundamental, challenging, perplexing and deeply rewarding aspect – of our relationship with God: prayer. What is prayer? How does it work? And more importantly, does it work?

In theory, prayer is the essential human act, a priceless point of contact between us and the God of the universe. In practice, prayer is often frustrating, confusing and fraught with mystery. Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? is an exploration of the mysterious intersection where God and humans meet and relate. Wrestling with the topic, Yancey explores such questions as:

• Is God listening?
• Why should God care about me?
• If God knows everything, what’s the point of prayer?
• Why do answers to prayer seem so inconsistent and capricious?
• Why does God seem sometimes close and sometimes far away?
• How can I make prayer more satisfying?

Prayer: Does It Make Any Difference? offers readers compelling insights about the topic of prayer, comparable to the helpful, life-changing messages of his bestsellers. Yancey will embark on a 15-city tour.

How Do We #ReCenterChrist? * Personally? Corporately? Organically not Programatically? * In our Ministries and Meetings? Our Groups and Gatherings? With Family and Friends?   * ReCentering Christ We intentionally shift from running an agenda to responding to a Person. We devote intentional time to four simple, repeatable practices:   1. Invite — Welcome Our Savior’s Presence “Jesus will be called Immanuel” (which means “God is with us”). — Matthew 1:23 What we are doing: Addressing Jesus personally. Honoring Him as present Lord — not speaking generally “to the room,” but to Him. Language we can use: “Jesus, we welcome You.” “We worship You and recognize Your authority over this time.” “Our desire is to listen, learn, and follow Your lead.” Practice: Worship — brief, focused, Christ-directed. Outcome: A gathered awareness that Jesus is not an idea we discuss but a Lord we encounter.   2. Invoke — Petition Holy Spirit Participation “The disciples were fi...

NEW THOUGHT-PROVOKING CONTENT √ Click Here Why Am I Relaunching Your Network? •It Started With A Sabbath-Search Last year the Lord led me to take an extended sabbath, disconnecting from the teams I served, to recalibrate my ministry focus. During those months, I daily sought the Spirit’s guidance by asking-seeking-knocking for the mind of Christ. The relaunch is a result of that search. •The Spirit Burst Romans 12:2 Into My Mind And Heart The voice of the Lord came to me many times through Romans 12:2: Be transformed by the renewing of you mind. First, for my life and family. Then also for this ministry. A fresh calling to “engage and equip leaders across the global Church to reimagine their perspective on ministry: prayer, making-disciples, the Church in the 21st century, evangelism, justice, citywide collaboration.” •And Then A New Laser-Focus on  # Reimagine ... Renewing of our minds is a call to reimagine (assess: review-rethink-recalibrate) •Next Came An ...
