Watch for Watchmen!

“Intercessors have strategic assignments in their prayer closets. The prayer closet is like those ancient watchtowers. From there, they can scour ‘the spiritual horizon’ like air traffic controllers. They often sense spiritual things discerning the good from the bad, the welcome from the unwelcome. In prayer, God sometimes exposes the enemy’s plans and show the intercessor ‘the cards that Satan is holding.’” Eddie and Alice Smith •t's time to be watchful and blow the trumpet. It's time for all of us in the body of Christ to get serious about fasting, prayer and evangelism. We are living in an unusual hour. Major things are happening worldwide every week. Many of us watch the news daily to see in the natural what is happening, but God wants us to watch and see spiritually what is occurring on the earth. Just in this last month so many things have happened. It is time for all of us to get our lives in order before the Lord, become watchful in prayer, and find our posi...

Praying With Your Pastor

Image
Lighten the Load: Practical Ways to Partner with Your Pastor through Prayer by Elaine Helms "I’ve been a pastor for 30 years and this is the first time I have heard my congregation pray for me.” I almost cried when he said those words. I was leading a training event for the adult members of a moderately large church. At the end of a teaching time on Eph. 6:10-20, which includes Paul’s request for the church to pray for his boldness in sharing the gospel, I broke everyone into small groups to pray for their pastor. In the pastor’s presence, I asked them to pray for his preparation to preach, his health, and anything else the Holy Spirit directed. The pastor’s emotion was apparent in his closing remarks. He later shared with me that he had never experienced people praying for him. He was touched. He wanted more. (Please click here to read, print, or email this article from Pray!’s online archives.) Praying For Pastors

I'm a member of the North Georgia United Methodist Conference PrayerForce. We do a lot of praying for pastors each week! Each week PrayerForce members receive a list of about 20 pastors via email. The pastors have been contacted the previous week to let them know that they and their churches are being prayed for by the PrayerForce the following week and they have the opportunity to submit any specific requests that they might have. PrayerForce members pray daily for the pastors and their churches during the week. We also contact them individually, usually via email but through snail-mail or phone if email is not an option, and send them a prayer (below is a version of what I might say if there is no specific request from the pastor). During the course of a year, all pastors in the North Georgia United Methodist Conference are contacted and prayed over. My dear friend and Prayer Chick extraordinaire, Leah Cunningham, is the director of the PrayerForce, and I thank God for her ha...

NEW Resource: 40 Days of Prayer

40 DAYS OF PRAYER LAUNCHES! Love to Pray Based upon the book Love to Pray written by Dr. Alvin VanderGriend, this program provides the book, a study guide and DVD lessons taught by some of the most respected prayer leaders of our day, including Henry Blackaby. The simple approach of 40 Days of Prayer makes it the perfect study for small groups. It provides a biblical foundation for the importance of prayer for the individual, the family and the church. The common focus of the program helps deepen and enrich prayer lives for all who participate. The 40 Days of Prayer initiative is designed to help churches become “houses of prayer.” Prayer is meant to be the very heart and soul of every congregation. Scripture makes prayer the priority of the church. The Lord said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples” (Isa. 56:7, RSV; see Matt. 21:13). The Bible sets this high standard for prayer: “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests . . ....
