Simple Steps to Praying "For & With" Unbelievers

.
The 'chainsaw method' of the Kingdom

Eight years ago Tineke Hanique started a 'Practice for Prayer Healing' in her hometown Eindhoven. People who suffer from all kinds of illnesses or disabilities can call in or come along to receive a prayer of blessing or healing in the name of Jesus. Since she started her practice, over 1,200 people have come to faith in Jesus. Every week on average three people come to Christ.

The first step in this process is offering prayer. "Jesus always gave people what they really needed," says Tineke. "He healed the sick, delivered those who lived under demonic oppression, gave strength to the weak, and food to the hungry. This is also what I give to people by praying for their needs. I can do this everywhere and it's quite simple. Whether it's on the phone, or in the street, or in the shop, there are always people willing to share about their problems and illnesses."

Tineke is convinced that we need the power of the Holy Spirit when engaging with people about Jesus. "You can cut trees with an axe, a handsaw, or a chainsaw," she says. "Now, there's nothing wrong with an axe or a handsaw, but a chainsaw is so much more effective! We can help people encounter God and enter the Kingdom with words, or with compassion in combination with miracle power. Jesus always did the latter, which is what I call the chainsaw method of the Kingdom!"

"First I always listen to people," says Tineke. "Then I express that I really feel sorry for them, and offer to bless them with a simple prayer, asking God to heal them or meet their need. I always add: 'Of course only if you want me to pray'. People always appreciate it if you offer to pray for them. Sometimes they say: 'Yes, but I don't really believe in God'. My reply is always: 'You don't have to believe in God, what matters is that I believe, which is sufficient.' Then I offer to pray for them straight away, assuring that it only takes two seconds and that I will keep my eyes open. Every time I found that God really meets people and they sense it, either at that very moment, or in the following days."

"If I be lifted up I will draw all men unto me."

Compiled by Pastor Ted Corley

These names come from years of study, reading and research. I am grateful to many ministers who have written about, preached about and taught about the wondrous names of Yeshua. I wish that I could give credit to everyone who has contributed to this list, but sometimes during a sermon or teaching, the name will just explode off the page and I will write it down and later I can’t remember who was preaching or teaching. It is a growing list and if you have a name that is not on the list please send it to me so that I may fully expose the majesty and power of Yeshua.

Please Advise . . .

.
Phil,
I would like to know what your recommendations are for resources for Pastors and Prayer Coordinators / leaders. We are helping them to realize and strengthen 3 areas in the New Year

[Note: My replies are under each of the 3 goals] . . .

1. Trying to inspire them to deepen prayer in their personal lives.

Most pastors I know who express a deeper life of praying identify a common factor; a personal experience that altered their understanding of what prayer is. That can happen:
- By listening to another pastoral leader who has a personal experience of a deepened prayer life (rather than a preacher or teacher who primarily tells others what they already know they should be doing) … followed by an unhurried, unscripted opportunity to respond to the Lord’s word in the message
-During a personal prayer retreat, possibly under the guidance of a spiritual formation coach (search at Praying Pastor blog)
-By reading and praying through a book, such as Jon Graf’s The Power of Personal Prayer or Alvin VanderGriend’s Learn to Love to Pray
-With others who devote an extended period of time, possibly in a retreat setting, to seek the Lord under the leadership of the Holy Spirit (usually facilitated by someone from outside that group with extensive experience in scripture-fed, Spirit-led praying) (extensive help at PrayerSummits.net)

2. The need for leaders to have personal prayer shields/networks.

This is a vital component many pastors never seriously consider. By asking persons (of all ages; give youth and children the opportunity of learning to pray for their pastor) in their congregation to devote themselves to praying for their spiritual leader(s), the pastor is lifting high the value of intercession and teaching the reality of spiritual warfare. Prayer Shield by Peter Wagner is a good first step toward introducing and inviting church members into this realm of prayer. Connecting pastors to the National Pastors’ Prayer Network (NPPN.org) provides ongoing communication of new resources and strategies related from pastors’ prayer groups from across the nation and around the globe.

3. Helping pastors / leaders to develop healthy prayer ministries in their churches. We are currently using Prayer Saturated Church (Awesome and practical) for this, but that seems to be a big jump for beginners. Is there another good resource to get it people started with prayer / intercession in their churches?

The Prayer Saturated Church is so comprehensive that it might intimidate some who are just realizing the need to integrate prayer into every meeting and ministry of the church. While that book is essential, here are a few that may be a better first step: My House Shall Be Called a House of Prayer (NavPress) and A House of Prayer: Prayer Ministries in Your Church (LifeWay) provide vision and foundation along with practical ideas to begin a ministry of praying. Fresh Encounters (Henderson) and And The Place Was Shaken (Franklin) are excellent guides for pastors and prayer leaders who want to introduce (or revive) scripture-fed, Spirit-led prayer in their congregation. Both enable leaders to see the difference between directing and facilitating corporate praying.

Start here to check out these resources!

"How'd You Do That?" ~ Leading a Corporate Prayer Experience

.
At a recent men's conference, I had the privilege of leading a session of corporate prayer. The speaker who preceded the prayer session asked me if I had notes or a list of instructions on how I led the corporate praying ... I had to confess I had no preset order or format; it was a Spirit-led, Scripture-fed (especially from his message) session. My aim was to listen to what was being preached and then what was being prayed as a way to follow the step-by-step leading of the Holy Spirit.

After reflecting on the prayer session, here are the comments I emailed to my colleague. Let me know if they help you lead corporate praying from a more transformative perspective, Phil

* During your message, I was asking the Lord to let me know the direction he intended to go during the prayer time.
* I highly value inviting everyone to participate, even in discerning the mind of Christ for a session - So I asked for feedback.
* As men prayed, I listened for a thread or theme - "Desperation" came up a few times.
* I try to balance between letting individuals pray as they are led ("What is the Spirit prompting you to pray?") and requesting specifically focused prayers ("Someone pray on our behalf __________" (Thanking our Father for ... or, Inviting the Spirit to ... or, Asking Christ to ...)).
* I wanted everyone to have an opportunity to pray aloud, without going around the circle, so I asked the men to pray with a partner.
* I wanted to teach how to pray a blessing (many have never done that), so I used the key verse from your message, turned it into a blessing format (The person praying speaks the scriptural truth to the person they are praying for, not to the Lord). I then had the first and then the second partner repeat after me because not everyone had a Bible; they could simply repeat the words I gave them in a blessing format.
* Usually I try to incorporate several components in facilitating corporate prayer:
o A scriptural foundation or focus
o Spoken praying
o Sung prayers (as transitions to a new topic or as a way to extend praise beyond speaking out God's names (that usually goes too quickly))
o Silence (with an assignment to think/pray about)
o Scriptural prayers ("Your prayer must start from somewhere in this passage of scripture." - Praying God's word always inspires and ignites praying)
o Scripted (prayers written during the time of silence)

Check out my article on Leading/facilitating Corporate Prayer from the new release Giving Ourselves to Prayer.

Hope this helps - Feedback welcome!

Phil

Inner~View #50: Prayers that Change the World

Phil Miglioratti interviewed Debbie Przybylski, author of Intercessor Arise: Personal Prayer that Changes the World

Phil ~ Debbie, you write that Intercessors Arise is a "mentoring manual for prayer and intercession for the end times." How is this book able to mentor someone who wants to grow in their prayer life?

Debbie ~ Phil, I want to excite each reader as to the possibilities their prayers can make in their world! Intercessors Arise has thirty-three motivational and practical teachings. It’s designed both for individuals who are learning to pray and for those who are well-seasoned intercessors. Each chapter has three separate teachings that are helpful for personal growth and motivation in prayer. It’s meant to be inspirational as well as instructional. Each teaching is short and practical and can be used for strengthening your personal prayer life and developing group praying. It’s a great way for whole churches to study prayer together.

My desire is to help each reader go further than they have ever been in the tremendous ministry of world-changing prayer. The teachings are designed for reading again and again according to the particular need of the moment and for prayerful consideration and application. The chapters include various areas of prayer and intercession such as: intimacy, worship, passion, faith, character, stillness, the Bible, discipline, fasting, purpose, strongholds, forgiveness, revival, the Kingdom of God, and the world. They are ideal for busy Christian of all ages who want to read a short, challenging teaching about prayer together with a personal, application dimension for everyday life.

Phil ~ What is the significance of "for the end times" in that statement?

Debbie ~ Intercessors Arise International began the week after 9/11. It was birthed in my heart years ago on the mission field as a young missionary trying to reach the nations with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It was then that I saw the critical hour and desperate need for intercession for the nations. Over the years my passion has grown into an earnest desire to see prayer and intercession increase and develop worldwide.

Phil, I believe that we are in an extremely important moment of time. It is my intense desire that intercessors and all believers arise in the end times. The days are getting darker, and the need is getting greater. My prayer for the readers of this book is that they arise to the call for prayer and intercession in their own life whether it is for their family, city, nation, or the world. It is time for expansion and an increase in prayer on a global scale. It is time for the art and fervency of intercession to develop beyond anything we have ever seen or imagined.

I pray that God will ignite a greater flame within God’s people for prayer and intercession. Each believer can be a mighty instrument in prayer for Christ in this world. Now is the time for the Church of Jesus Christ to arise in powerful intercession for the end-times harvest. We are entering days of vast opportunity, and the expectation of a worldwide harvest is growing brighter. I pray that intercession will arise in every nation and that God will use all of the Church worldwide.

This is the season for all believers to arise and shine in prayer (Isaiah 60:1-2). The bright light of God’s glory in His church is beginning to arise over the entire earth. As I wrote this book, my heart lept within me as I sensed the urgency of the hour and the spirit of intercession that is stirring the world, bringing forth the rule of Jesus, His Kingdom. I feel an incredible joy as I realize that this is the day for intercessors to arise to their high calling of prayer and intercession.

Phil ~ What is the difference between praying and interceding and why is it important to know the difference?

Debbie ~ Prayer is the act of earnestly asking for a favor, and intercession is pleading in favor of another. When we pray we usually bring our requests, offer petition, and supplication to God. When we intercede we come to God on behalf of another. Through our intercession we bring God’s power to earth, and through this we are able to conquer the world. Through intercession we mediate between God and man as His representatives on earth, standing between Him and a lost world. We bring people to God in prayer asking Him to meet with them.

Petition may be asking for God to meet our own personal needs, but intercession is the primary means God has chosen to release His government on earth. In intercession, we declare God’s mind and will. We partner with Him through intercession, and we see Him open doors of blessing. We are invited to be co-laborers with Him as we represent Him on earth. With His authority, we enforce the victory of Calvary here on earth through our prayers.

God is calling the entire body of Christ to pray and intercede. Jesus is our example as the greatest intercessor, and He invites us to join Him. Intercessory prayer is an extension of the ministry of Jesus through His church on earth. He works through the prayers of His people.

Phil, this is so important because God is seeking for men and women on earth who will enforce His will through intercession. This is our responsibility and a wonderful privilege to partner with Him as we pray. We must awaken to this glorious privilege. I don’t think most of God’s people realize the authority that is available to us. Just to think that we can change the world through our intercession!

Phil ~ You cover a large territory in this book. Give us a glimpse into some of your teachings...

Debbie ~ I have found that writing about prayer is like looking carefully at a beautiful, sparkling diamond.
Different areas of the diamond glitter and sparkle as you turn it and look at it from different angles. Learning about prayer and intercession is like that. There are endless breathtaking ways to look at prayer from so many viewpoints that are far beyond our imagination. Because God is so vast and immeasurable, writing about prayer is similar. It has been a personal delight and joy to participate in so great a topic. Yes, I do cover a lot of territory in this book - 33 motivational teachings in prayer - but I have tried to do it in such a way that the reader can grasp and apply important truths about prayer in their daily life. Here are a few examples:

  • Purpose-Driven Prayer - Discover how to pray God’s purpose rather than your problems. Learn how to live and to pray in a more focused and purposeful lifestyle. Find out how to eliminate distractions in your prayer life. Learn how to discover God’s purposes and plans through listening prayer, prayer that makes you sensitive to hear God’s heart desires.
  • Praying the Bible - This chapter will enhance your prayer life by revealing the benefits and power of employing God’s Word in a very practical way. Learn how to pray the promises of God. This chapter is designed to ignite a hunger in you for the Word of God and teach you how to use it in your prayer life. Learn the value of meditation and how to meditate on God’s Word daily.
  • The Intercessor and Revival - This chapter will help you to prepare for revival personally as well as corporately. You will learn from the examples of past revivals as you discover the characteristics of revival and the supernatural heartfelt fire of revival. Find out how revival brings supernatural manifestations, spontaneous workings, conviction of sin, and a new God-consciousness. Discover how God wants to awaken His Church.
  • Faith-Filled Prayers Developed through Delay - Faith must inspire our prayers to God. Learn how delays develop and enlarge our faith. This teaching will help you learn to pray for the impossible and accept difficult prayer assignments without giving up. You will find that your willingness and weakness plus God’s will and supernatural power will give God unlimited opportunity to bless your life circumstances.
  • The Intercessor and Strongholds - In this chapter, you will discover how to destroy destructive strongholds in your mind. Learn powerful weapons to use against them. Find out the ways to discover and deal with these negative thought patterns. Discover the secret of choosing life over death on a daily basis by making God and His Word your stronghold.

Phil ~ Is it possible some intercessors have an assignment or calling to pray for a nation? If so, does God actually transform nations through the prayers of an intercessor half-way across the globe?

Debbie ~ Yes! Many intercessors are called to pray for nations and missionaries. Personal pray can change the world! Often intercessors can get a burden to pray for a person or nation that needs desperate prayer halfway around the world and later find how God specifically answered their prayers. My husband and I were halfway around the world in India a few years ago and ran into some danger after our vehicle broke down. Terrorists were in that area, it was getting dark, and we had nowhere to go! Individuals from our church met together and prayed for us in Virginia - quite a distance away from India - and God miraculously protected us, provided a place to stay overnight, and got us out of that area quickly and unharmed.

There is a chapter in my book about discovering God’s heart for nations and how to pray strategically for countries. It’s a joy to discover how to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world through your prayers! Phil, my husband and I were missionaries for many years and can testify how important our prayer partners were to us. I don’t think a missionary can be effective without people diligently praying for them in their home church. It makes all the difference in the world. And we have many other personal stories of answered prayer, and it was almost always linked to people praying in other parts of the world for us. All the nations are being touched with the power of prayer. It is my desire to help train and motivate others for this worldwide prayer movement.

Phil ~ What would you like to say to that person who has little training or recognition but has a passion to make a difference in their praying; for another person or their pastor or a nation?

Debbie ~ I want to encourage you to arise in prayer and intercession. God is raising you up to pray at a most strategic hour. Some have said to me, “I don’t have the gift of intercession.” I have seen these same individuals grow into mighty prayer warriors. None of us are born a prayer hero. We learn this through practice. You can make a difference in the life of your church, pastor, family, and city. Your prayers can change your world!

I want to encourage you to make a new commitment to steadfast and earnest prayer. Each topic in Intercessors Arise is written to motivate you further in you prayer life than you have ever gone before. It will help you to focus on intercession and begin to see the multi-faceted aspects of prayer. It is designed to create a hunger for God and for the deeper prayer life.

My prayer for you is that you not only arise to your own calling in intercession, but that you lead many into this tremendous ministry of prayer and intercession. May your prayers become red-hot in their passionate fervency. May you know your authority so as to effectively release God’s power across the territory God has assigned to you. May your love for Jesus grow stronger and stronger with each passing day with your praises ascending to the throne of grace as a fragrant incense filling the heaven with the beauty of your devotion.

Never forget that the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you for such a time as this. Your calling to intercede is during the finest hour, at the greatest moment in all of history. Truly, you have been called to the Kingdom for a time such as this. We must demonstrate to the world, on the earth, that heaven exists and that God is sovereign ruler and does answer the prayers of His people in exceeding greatness and glorious power.

Phil ~ Debbie, please write a prayer seemingly unknown intercessors can pray that will magnify the work of the Holy Spirit in their praying towards that "prayer that changes the world."

Debbie ~ I’ve written an application prayer at the end of each chapter of my book, and I am going to include the prayer in the last chapter called The Intercessor and the World” -

“Lord, help me to bring the touch of Jesus into my world. Make me aware of the needy world around me. Open doors of opportunity in which I can touch another person with Your love. Give me faith and courage to pray for others. Give me a vision for prayer for the world. I want my personal prayer to change my world. Help me to pray for the nations. Lord, I want to be Your salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16). Help me to reach out to the lost and needy. I thank you that you have anointed me to preach good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners (Isaiah 61:1). Enable me to do this in my world. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Lead prayer effectivly.

"The Prayer Guide method of saying, leading, and guiding prayer is the culmination of decades of personal struggle and pastoral ministry. Let my pilgrimage of prayer help you become a Prayer Guide. This practical how-to book of prayer leadership will help you help others encounter God." - author Lowell Snow

I have more books on prayer in my library than any other subject. Yet, Lowell Snow's Manual on prayer gave me some of the most fresh and practical helps I have ever found. I wish this had been available when I was a young pastor. - Don Moore, Former Executive Director, Arkansas Baptist Convention

I appreciate the practicality of your Prayer Guide. Many prayer leaders do not know the first step toward facilitating a prayer experience that really connects people to God as they pray. - Phil Miglioratti, Church Prayer Leaders Network

Praying God's Agenda for a Nation

.
...Note: This teaching may be applied toward your home nation as well as toward praying for the work of the gospel and mission ambassadors in other nations . . .

Strategic Prayer for Your Nation

“The Spirit of God is arresting our attention and focusing us upon His agenda which is the very heartbeat of God. He is a God who has definite strategies and works according to a fixed set of plans. Nothing, absolutely nothing is a happenstance with the Lord for He is a God of order. He has a plan concerning the nations. His agenda is far more serious than anything man can comprehend, for He always deals with eternal issues and the eternity of entire nations is at stake." Adapted from Michael Howard

Dear Intercessors,

It is with great urgency that God wants us to pray for the nations. We have a small window of opportunity to give ourselves to strategic prayer during our short life time. The battle we are facing in the nations is between light and darkness. Making the choice not to pray can bring untold grief and evil into the nations that could affect all our freedoms as Christians. Intercessor, let’s realize that this battle is about God’s righteousness and glory - It’s about praying for what is right in God’s sight - It’s about standing on the firm commitment to Godly principles. It’s all about Him and His Kingdom.

How should we pray? Here are several ways you can pray strategically for your nation.

  • Pray that in the pressures coming upon the world, there would be a great and lasting turning to the Lord - Pray that your nation will learn righteousness (Isaiah 26:9) and that God’s judgments may be tempered by His mercy (Isaiah 54:8, 60:10; Habakkuk 3:2).

  • Pray for godly shepherds and servant leaders who will refuse to downplay the urgency of the hour in the world - Pray that these shepherds will lead the Church in holiness, a commitment to the Bible, spiritual unity, and outreach to the lost.

  • Pray for the President or Prime Minister of your nation and his leadership team - Pray that decisions may be wisely made and that the leaders of your nation would not boast and trust in their own military might, but walk in dependence upon the Lord. Pray that the wicked will be removed from power and influence.

  • Pray for the evangelization and discipling of the lost - Pray that millions of souls will be saved in the coming days. Pray for the Church to reach out to the lost with love and boldness and that Christians will pray for, care for, and share Christ with their neighbors and co-workers.

  • Pray for God's protection over your nation and that the armies of heaven will push back the powers of darkness - Pray that a spiritual shield will contain hostilities. Pray that weapons of mass destruction will be powerless and that the way would be prepared for God’s borders to be established.

When a child of God begins to get a real vision into the need of the church and the world, a vision of the divine redemption that God has promised in the outpouring of His love into our hearts, a vision of the power of true intercession to bring down the heavenly blessing, a vision of the honor of being allowed as intercessors to take part in that work, it comes as a matter of course that he regards the work as the most heavenly thing on earth - as intercessor to cry day and night to God for the revelation of His mighty power."

7 Daily Prayers
Adapted by James W. Goll, intercessory leader and author who just lost his wife (www.jamesgoll.com).

Wednesdays: Praise to God
We enter into Your gates with thanksgiving and into Your courts with praise. Lord we praise You for You are good and Your mercies endure forever. You are enthroned over my nation through the praises of Your people. Let us praise the Lord together! Honor, power, might, and dominion are Yours forever and ever. Praise the Lord! Amen! Revelation 1:4-6; Revelation 7:12; Romans 12:1; Psalm 100:4-5; and Psalm 22:3.

Thursdays: Penitence for our sins
We beseech You, O God, to pour forth Your godly sorrow which leads to true repentance upon Your Church. We ask forgiveness for having other gods before You, bowing our knee to the god of mammon, for our pride and arrogance, and for the shedding of innocent blood. We weep in travail for the iniquity that is upon us! Ecclesiastes 4:1; 1 John 1:9-10; Nehemiah 9:1-2; and Matthew 6:9-13.

Fridays: Petition for those in authority
We pray for the manifold wisdom of God to rest upon all who are in authority in my nation. May truth and discernment guide every decision they make in their public and private lives. Pull down the ungodly and raise up the righteous. We cry for justice and mercy, truth and righteousness, to be established. Proverbs 21:1-2; Ephesians 3:10; Romans 8:26-31; and 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

Saturdays: Proclamation of the names of God
With delight we speak the words Abba Father. You are our strong tower and our place of refuge. We will trust in You and not be afraid, for the Lord JEHOVAH is our strength and our song. We proclaim the name, Jehovah Nissi, for He shall be our deliverer. Come, Jehovah Sabaoth, the Lord of Hosts, and thrust out the enemies before us. Psalm 34:1-7; Deuteronomy 32:3-4; Deuteronomy 33:26-27; and Exodus 15:2.

Sundays: Protection for our land
We cry out to the Lord, Mighty in Battle, to awaken the watchmen to their assignments for our nation, city, and family. Equip us with Your weapons of warfare. We call for the release of the angelic hosts to join with Jesus, the Captain of the Hosts, to war on behalf of our nation to protect our people and to bring forth His purposes for such a time as this. Jeremiah 29:7; Ezekiel 22:30; 2 Chronicles 7:13-14; and 2 Corinthians 10:4.

Mondays: Pronouncement of judgment on the powers of darkness
We place our nation, cities, and families under the blood of Jesus Christ. As we seek God's face and repent of our sins, we pronounce that by grace no weapon formed against us shall prosper. Every tongue that would rise up against us in judgment will be exposed and cast down. Father God, may all of Your enemies bow in submission at the authority of Your word and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Isaiah 54:17; Psalm 149:6-9; Ephesians 6:10-20; Romans 16:20; Philippians 2:9-11; and Revelation 12:11.

Tuesdays: Prophesy life!
We prophesy life to our nation. We say blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord! Blessed are the people whom You have chosen as Your own inheritance. The snare is broken and we have escaped for our help is in the Name of the Lord. We prophesy a bright future, a good welfare, hope and fulfilled destiny over our land. Glory to God! Psalm 124:7; Proverbs 18:10; Ezekiel 37:1-10 and Jeremiah 29:10-11.

“May a united prayer force arise in this hour across the body of Christ to make history before the throne of God and build up a wall of protection against the forces of evil. Let the light of God's power and love permeate this present darkness and may His glory shine! In Jesus Great name - AMEN!" James Goll

Prayer Requests for the Nations

"A person who can pray is the mightiest instrument Christ has in this world. A praying church is stronger than all the gates of hell. God’s decree for the glory of His Son’s kingdom is dependent on prayer for its fulfillment: ‘Ask of me, and I will give thee the heathen for thy inheritance, and the uttermost part of the earth for they possession’ (Psalm 2:8). God the Father gives nothing to his Son except through prayer." Andrew Murray

  • Thank God for how He is working in the nations - Philippians 4:6

  • Pray for unity in the body of Christ - John 17:23, Matthew 12:25.

  • Pray for a spiritual awakening among the lost - 2 Peter 3:9, John 14:13-14, 16:24.

  • Pray for an outpouring of God's Spirit in revival on God's people - Psalm 85:6, Isaiah 64:1-3.

  • Pray for leaders - Ephesians 4:11, 1 Timothy 2:1-3.

  • Pray that God's people will walk in holiness and obedience - Psalm 81:11-12.

  • Pray for the fear of the Lord to touch all Christians so they hate evil - Proverbs 8:13, 2 Corinthians 7:1b.

  • Pray for God to send His workers into the harvest field in the world from every nation - Matthew 28:19-20.

  • Pray that the body of Christ will reach out to the poor and needy - Proverbs 21:13, Hebrews 13:3.

  • Pray for revival among children and youth and that God will use them mightily for His glory.

  • Pray for just laws and righteous moral standards - 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

  • Pray that the Word of God will be given its rightful place - Psalm 119:126.

  • Pray that God there will be united intercession in cities and regions with the ability to pray against the major principalities over those areas - Ephesians 6:12-13.

  • Pray that God's people will wage spiritual warfare as directed by the Holy Spirit - Ephesians 6:10-18.

Make a definite determination to pray strategically for your nation in the coming days. I feel in my spirit that this is a critical time in world history, and we have the choice in prayer to turn the tide of evil that is trying to destroy our nations. Please give yourself to prayer, and encourage others to do so in this critical hour. As you make the commitment to pray purpose-driven prayers for your nation, God will meet your own personal needs. This is all about the Kingdom of God and aligning our hearts with the heartbeat of God.

If you would like to purchase my latest book called Intercessors Arise: Personal Prayer that Changes the World, there is a chapter called “The Intercessor and the World” about looking into the heart of God for the nations. Ask for it at your nearest Christian bookstore or purchase it through http://www.navpress.com or http://amazon.com.

“The key to the authority of the intercessor is when his heartbeat aligns with the heartbeat of Almighty God. Nothing is more pressing than that the nations and multitudes who are marching to a Christless eternity should be saved. How I saw the agendas of men: so many and varied and all of such vital importance to them, but there was only one paramount agenda to God: THE NATIONS. I instantly realized that the entire task of the glorious triune God was completely and utterly devoted to this one supreme purpose for which Jesus had so freely given His life. All else was rather trivial in comparison and we all had majored on the trivial." Michael Howard

Pray. Vote. Then, Prayer Harder!

.
Election Day Prayer

by Rev. Greg Asimakoupoulos

Decision Day will soon be here
when we must take a stand.
Remind us, Lord, that we aren't simply
voting for a man.

Our choice will welcome policies,
initiatives and planks
that form a platform of ideals.
But, Lord, may I be frank?

I am discouraged by the trend
to leave our faith at home.
We need You standing by our side.
We dare not vote alone.

Please grant us wisdom as we mark
our ballots next Tuesday.
And may the outcome be the means
to serve Your will I pray.

Praying in Tune

The Connection

In "Schooled by the Psalms," Ben Patterson directs us back to the Psalms to learn how to pray God's revelation of truth through his Word. "By praying the Psalms back to God, we learn to pray in tune with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit," writes Patterson. In doing so, our "hearts and desires are enlarged."

A Prayer Facilitator's First Steps

.

Feedback from someone who attended training on how to facilitate worship-based corporate praying . . .

After going through all the explanations and teaching about what we were about to be doing, we began. There was dead silence. A silent prayer shot up to Heaven, “God, I do not know what to do if no one participates! Help!” Soon after, someone prayed, then another and another. They got it! Praise God!

One man shared that when he arrived he was not expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience.

What I found out:

· Leading something of this nature is much different than simply being a participant. Duh! What I mean is, it was difficult for me to “enter in.” The other participants were probably not aware, but trying to listen and keep things moving, etc. was distracting.

· Co-facilitators are extremely important and fundamental to the success of the event

· I can see how something of this nature would be very beneficial for pastors to participate in for a refreshing touch from God. The pastors at the summit this summer appeared to be revitalized by the 3+ day experience.

· Remember to hand out scripture verses

· Keep the group in a smaller room and make sure everyone can hear (smaller is better and more intimate)

· Sit down or have one of the co-facilitators sit to model that it is OK to sit if you need to

· Hand out the evaluation forms ahead of time

· There are a lot of people hungering after more of God

· God is always faithful

· When Jesus is allowed to touch a life, that life will be changed

Our pastor wants to talk to me about what we did in the retreat to perhaps try to do something similar at our church!

Thanks for your help and input !

A United Prayer from the Church

A United Prayer from the Church

At a Time of Overwhelming National Crises

AS YOUR CHURCH – in the midst of unprecedented turmoil and catastrophic circumstances coming at us from every side, nationally and internationally, coupled with increasing deficiencies in national leadership – we press into Your heart this day, God of world history and earth’s peoples, and glorious God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

WE REFUSE to panic. We resist captivity to dire projections or overwhelming fears. Instead we want to focus on and celebrate all that Your precious Son is, reigning right now in the face of every evil — who He is to us, and for us, over us, and within us, through us, and before us, and upon us.

WE PROCLAIM Him before all Heaven: Christ is supreme! — He is sovereign, superior, sufficient and totally satisfying! Christ is our glory! — He is Alpha & Omega, the consummation of all Your purposes, for all creation, for all the Ages to come! In Him our life is hidden with You, until the hour He returns in the final triumphs of grace and truth. Christ is among us! — He is accessible to us right now, in all of His riches. He stands with us – willing, able and ready to act for us, in us, and through us to magnify ALL that He is, before us and before all nations! Therefore, despite threats and tragedies and emergencies; despite deceptions and dismay and darkness, we proclaim: Christ is our hope! — He is the summation of all of Your promises, the source of all Your riches, and much more, for now and forever! We proclaim Him, therefore, to be the one great hope for America in this moment of overwhelming crises.

[ SELAH: Pause for silent reflection ]

WE REPENT before You and before our nation. We repent because it is the failure of the Church to properly respond to Christ as Lord that is the ultimate explanation for many of our current difficulties. Therefore, we, Your people, REPENT for how we have diminished Your Son, regarding Him more as our mascot than our Monarch. WE REPENT for how we have manipulated Your Son, coming to Him to use Him, as far as we think we need Him — that far and no more. WE REPENT for how we have hoarded Your Son, seeking His blessings for ourselves, with little thought about bringing those blessings to others. We’ve assumed that He was there only for us. We’ve acted as if He was not Lord of neighbors and nations. WE REPENT for how we have resisted Your Son, withholding our affections from Him because we were afraid of what it would cost us to draw near to Him — and thus we denied His lordship over all. WE REPENT for how we’ve replaced Your Son, with creeds, and programs, and organizations, and causes performed in His name — but without the consuming passion He deserves as the Center and Circumference of everything for us and for our nation. No wonder darkness is covering our land! No wonder confusion is on every hand! No wonder many are at a loss as to what to do! We who were to be rivers of Christ’s redemption and righteousness find ourselves to be stagnant and powerless instead, because we have failed to give Him the supremacy in everything as He deserves and desires. That is the ultimate crisis in this hour! We are broken-hearted.

[ SELAH: Pause for silent reflection ]

WE PLEAD for Your intervention. As Peter said, already judgment has begun with the household of God. It is Your Church that is struggling with spiritual bankruptcy, puzzled and paralyzed. WE, most of all, are in desperate need for a fresh revelation of the majesty and greatness of Your Son. WE, most of all, need to be re-converted back to Christ for ALL that He is as King of the universe, Lord of the nations, Head of the Church and Master of our destinies. The only genuine hope for America at this moment is the restoration of Jesus’ glory among your own people. WE, most of all, must be empowered to advance your Kingdom bringing Christ’s deliverance into our communities. Therefore, O Lamb of God, your Church appeals to you: Confront our crisis of supremacy. Cast out our crisis of supremacy. Cure our crisis of supremacy. Forgive us! Cleanse us! Purify us! Resurrect us! Re-convert us! Restore us! Refill us! Re-commission us! And then, O Lamb of God, use us to heal our land! .

Together in hope, O God of our salvation, we cry out for our whole nation to hear: “Lord Jesus, come and conquer us! Lord Jesus, come and conquer us! Lord Jesus, come and conquer us!”

[ SELAH: Pause for silent reflection ]

WE PRAY for your awakening power. Awaken your whole Church in America – and through us awaken an entire nation. AWAKEN US to see ALL that the Lord Jesus is in this hour of great trial. AWAKEN US to who He is as the majestic Son of God. AWAKEN US to where He is leading in the Purposes of God. AWAKEN US to how fully He imparts the Resources of God. AWAKEN US to what He rightfully must receive from the People of God. AWAKEN US to pursue Your magnificent promises, wonderfully defined by His supremacy! AWAKEN US to recover and spread abroad ALL the hope we are meant to have in our Sovereign Savior. AWAKEN US to plant that Kingdom hope among our fellow citizens, now trembling in fear and despair before a multitude of overwhelming crises. AWAKEN leaders, in all areas of our national life, who rise to exalt and serve the righteous purposes of the Lord Jesus Christ. AWAKEN all of us to the supremacy of our King! AWAKEN all of us to His fullness – for a deliverance of America that will bless all the peoples of the world. Begin in this hour. Begin in this place. Begin with us all.

Hallelujah! Praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit! In the name of Jesus, it shall be done! AMEN.

Prayer Guide for Living Water

.
I would like to invite you to be part of an effort to mobilize prayer for the global water crisis. At Living Water International, we are currently seeking to create a network of churches, ministries, and other organizations that will join with us in prayer, as described in the attached pamphlet, “A Call to Prayer for the Global Water Crisis.” We are joining with many others, trusting God to answer our prayers as we fervently ask him for revival, spiritual awakening, and world evangelization.

Addressing basic physical needs is certainly part of blessing the nations, and water is the most basic of all physical needs. 85% of unreached people in the world today are without access to clean, safe drinking water.

However, we are about meeting more than just physical needs. We are about sharing the love and message of Christ. We are dedicated to standing with him as we witness His Kingdom come here on earth as it is in heaven.

We are trusting God to stir the hearts of intercessors and to raise up a movement of concerted prayer for the people of the world who are without access to clean water and Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Please take a look at the attached prayer guide and prayerfully consider being a part of this effort. Feel free to forward this to others you think might be interested. For more details, visit our website at: www.water.cc.

October 10, 2009 was the first annual “Day of Prayer for the Global Water Crisis.” We are very excited about this! However, our main objective is an ongoing effort to mobilize focused intercession for most needy of the people sharing our world. Please consider partnering with us as we pursue His Kingdom in prayer.

Sincerely in Christ, Jerry Wiles, President
