The Importance of Praying Together
After speaking to hundreds of pastors and thousands of prayer leaders, it became evident that one of the greatest challenges you face is guiding people in praying together. The importance of conquering that challenge cannot be over overestimated.

* When Jesus taught on prayer, 33 out of 37 times He did so in the plural (For example, “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven).
* In Acts the Apostles constantly led the people of God to pray together and one of the hallmarks where God is moving around the world in incredible revival is corporate prayer.

A Lack of Training Resources
Buy "And the Place Was Shaken" OnlineI’ve asked about 6,000 prayer leaders over the last few years how many of them had ever been trained in how to lead a prayer meeting. During this time only 56 people have raised their hand. Yet very little is written today to help leaders guide the people of God to pray together.

In response to this need, I have written a book specifically for prayer leaders called And the Place Was Shaken: How to Lead a Powerful Prayer Meeting.

* The book lists the four responsibilities of a prayer leader in guiding prayer.
* It explains what God wants to do in a prayer meeting and how to work with Him.

Why the Free Handouts?
I also wanted to provide material and a process so that the leader would not have to create everything, thus LifeWay has posted this material here free of charge in support of the book.

It contains twenty-six (26) one-page handouts to be used at a weekly church-wide prayer meeting or in a small group. The material seeks to educate people about prayer, then provide application for them.

Why 26 Weeks?
Changing the understanding, habits, and behaviors of people requires time and repetition. I sought to make each week build on the previous, and yet at the same time still be stand alone so that those who missed a week or came in late on the process would be able to participate.

A Word as You Teach Your People to Pray
People pray most for those they love best. Dynamic prayer ultimately rises from people whose hearts are knit together and seeking first God’s kingdom. And that’s the order in which it usually happens. When people love each other they are knit into a body, then they are ready to go on mission with God. Make sure you have a steady diet of prayer activities that knit people’s hearts together. Dynamic prayer follows dynamic relationships.

God bless you. May He use you and those you lead mightily to accomplish His purposes, John

What others are saying about the book:

"It has well been said that prayer can do anything that God can do. I am grateful for John Franklin’s wonderful book, And the Place Was Shaken. As a pastor for many years, I have struggled with the subject of leading powerful prayer meetings. This book will be an asset to pastors such as I, and Christian leaders everywhere. I am happy to commend it."
Adrian Rogers (1931-2005), Former Pastor
Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, Tennessee

"I know of no one better than this author to speak to the subject of prayer. He not only is capable of writing on this ministry, but he has been very effective in leading our prayer ministry here at Woodstock’s First Baptist Church. You will be challenged and instructed in this excellent book."
Johnny Hunt, Pastor
First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia

"I cannot imagine a more timely and urgently needed resource. This tool has a wonderful balance of biblical principle and practical application. Best of all, it is God-focused and brings churches to the Savior, not just a program format. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to every leader with any responsibility for guiding prayer!"
